In a nutshell

We met Paul Meihat over 6 years ago.
A professional skipper, he makes his winter home in Haute Maurienne to ski with his family.

From the very first discussions, we felt a strong connection between the sea and the mountains. The starting point for this collaboration.

The idea is to bring together these 2 worlds, which have so much in common, and make the most of it !

Paul doesn’t know the Far North, but I do. That’s good news !

Ski and Sail

Roadbook

To say that Paul has a wealth of sailing experience is an understatement.
Add to his impressive list of achievements a 5th place finish in the Vendée Globe 2024/2025… 64 days sailing solo around the world, that’s something !

Suffice it to say that the weather conditions we’re about to encounter won’t be a problem, and may even be just spicy enough to see Paul really at work.

Paul is also a skier. He’s keen to make the most of it and come skiing with the group.

That’s the whole idea, to have a sailing & skiing adventure, to form a team and make the most of these 2 worlds.

More than 10 years ago, I made my first trip to the far north, to the Lyngen Alps, for almost 2 weeks. Almost autonomously, from hut to hut with a bunch of friends.

For the past few years, I’ve been skiing in Finmark towards Alta. Senja Island, where I’ve seen some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. The Lofoten, a name that sounds like a quest for a skier and traveller. What can I say about these marvellous couloirs that plunge straight into the sea !

And almost always with land access.
The few times I’ve taken a fisherman’s boat to access a coastline have given me an extraordinary sense of adventure! So what if I had the chance to travel by sailboat with Paul !

The yacht will be in Harstad, ideally located 1 hour’s drive from Narvik.

Depending on the weather, wind and snow conditions, we’ll head north to the island of Senja, or south to the Lofoten archipelago. Or we’ll stay in the Harstad region, in the Vesterålen islands.
In mid-April, it will be almost daylight from 4am to 11pm. That’s plenty of time to enjoy sailing and ski touring in the same day !

We really want to make the most of the potential offered by sailing and skiing, without defining a circuit in advance. The aim is to sail as much as possible without using the engine and to find the best snow conditions.
In short, this is going to be a real adventure, with all its preparation, expectations and unforeseen events !

Thanks to this knowledge, Paul has found us a 14m sailboat.
With its 5 cabins, for 10 people we’ll have every comfor t!

There are 2 cabins with double beds, and 3 cabins with bunk beds for the crew (Paul, Sylvain and the cook) and a group of up to 6 people.

A cook will ensure that this stay is also a sharing of passion at this level.

We’ll form a crew and try to sail together, putting into practice what Paul teaches us !
